F堵headh is a typeface for generating knotwork rows. It also includes a number of small panels, useful as dingbats. Pronounced "fee-yugh', the name is a Scottish Gaelic noun meaning 'weaving'. This archive contains the Macintosh TrueType version. There is also a Macintosh PostScript Type 1 version, and the PC TrueType version is in beta under both Linux and Windows.
Each row uses three characters, which have been arranged to be next to one another on a QWERTY keyboard. The example in the graphic above was made by typing "asssssd". If I had used upper case, the interlacing would be inverted. The table below shows the keys for the different combinations:
Ordinary characters Shifted characters
123 456 789 0-= !@」 $%^ &*( )_+
qwe rty uio p[] QWE RTY UIO P{}
asd fgh jkl ;'¥ ASD FGH JKL :"|
zxc vbn m,. ZXC VBN M<>
q/e and r/y are interchangable.
The dingbats can be found on the following letters, with the inverse on the upper case versions:
Whatユs in the archive?
The TrueType version of F堵headh consists of:
Figheadh.suit - the TrueType font. This goes in the ヤFontsユ folder inside the System Folder.
About Figheadh - this SimpleText document.
Register - allows registration via Kagi. See below.
Bugs and other inconvenient features.
I am in Scotland. This typeface was set up using a British keyboard. Shift-3 gives me 」. On US keyboards, you have to type option-3 to get this character. There are probably other differencesムuse the table to check.
It probably does not affect the TrueType version at all but when using ATM and the PostScript version, the bitmap doesn't look right - a vertical line will appear between parts of the knotwork using the white-on-black characters. So far, it has always printed out correctly without any kerning being required. It could be a problem if you are using a bitmapped graphics package with ATM. When adding special effects to the knotwork, the (unaffected) black-on-white versions more useful anyway. I had to rub out the lines to get the graphic at the top.
Filthy Lucre
F堵headh is shareware. By all means try it out, but if you plan to keep using it please pay the appropriate fee as shown below. Prices are given in US dollars. The usual shareware conditions applyムthis typeface may be freely distributed so long as the archive is not altered in any way; copyright remains with myself. Registered users will be able to access an additional typeface of dingbats based on early Medieval Irish and Pictish metalwork.
1+ single user licenses, $10 per user (approximately 」7)
A Site License costs $200 (」140 - equal to 20 users) and covers all locations for your organisation within a 160 km radius of your site (100 miles). One big advantage of a Site License is that you do not need to keep track of how many people at your site are using the software.
A World-Wide License costs $1000 (」700) and it covers all locations for your organisation on the planet earth.
Paying for F堵headh is fairly simple as Kagi handles my payment processing. Open the Register program that accompanies F堵headh. Enter your name, your email address, and the number of single user licenses you desire (or Site or Word-Wide licenses). Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi.
.
If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement.
If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:
Kagi

Berkeley, California 94709-1405
USA
You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical.
If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi cannot invoice your companyムyou need to act on my behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork at your end.
Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method. As far as we know, there is still no technology to transfer physical objects via fax or email and without the payment, the form cannot be processed. Payments send via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Again, if you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when the form is processed.
Alternative payment
I am quite flexible and will consider barter, especially if you edit a neopagan publication. I have just heard about an Edinburgh LETS and plan to join that quite soon.
If you are in the UK contact me for pricing and ヤwho to make the cheque payable toユ information.
